The problem with Queen and Mother in many stories is that they tend to get really possessive of their children/power, and then become stereotypes. And if a female character is Queen or Mother, in order to be an entity, she's got to be tragically single or something.

I think we should all start writing stories about Mothers of Seven or something. ;)
