What way does Nicola put it, 'the attraction of the disposed'? Yes, I had that phase too, despite the fact that any relevant ancestors around Scotland at the time were more likely to be doing the oppressing. (Well, my mother's maiden name is one of the clans who were marginally involved, but I think at that point our lot were already in Ireland and probably already Presbyterian.)

Mmm, Alan Breck...although I think I prefer Ewen's world. For one thing, it doesn't have Davie Balfour in it :-P Although Ian Stewart is an equal idiot for about half a book. Do you have favourites?
