H/G! Go Orange Crush!

Harry Potter Ship Archetype Sorter

H/G- Some answers you gave seemed to follow a pattern of a typical Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley supporter, although the quiz could easily be wrong. One for me if it got it right, though!... press "see all results" for access to a smaller version for low-res computers. Synonymous with the cozy HMS Orange Crush, H/G is clearly the most pathos-oriented of all ships, with great potential for emotional interaction- from fluffy romance to heartwrenching angst. It's unique in that its supporters tend to make a distinction between why they'd be a good couple and why they'd be a couple at all. Harry and Ginny are both kind persons (Harry obviously; Ginny should be inspected from being seen comforting Ron in GoF to the end of that scene, displaying various virtues). Both of them have met with Voldemort face to face (Ginny continuously for a whole year!) and could probably understand each other's feelings better than most. Ginny stands up for him in HP2, claiming that "He didn't want all that [fame]", which is pretty insightful for a girl her age, considering how little they have talked. H/G claims of why they'd be a couple in the first place are more literary (metacanonical) than actually textual; They tend to do the exact opposite of H/Hers when dealing with HP canon, looking for metastructural patterns and the author's sentiments rather than hidden, underlying meanings, except for rare occasions (CoS climax- Wizard saving another's life creating a bond between them being the main and almost only one). However not all support this pairing, and the visible flaws make it pretty clear why. Similar to the R/H problem, H/G just seems too fairytalish and sappy to be real. Ginny can easily be interpreted simply as a star-struck fangirl who hopelessly tries gaining Harry's attention in the wrong ways, not unlike Colin Creevey, for example. Plus the author has placed no truly significant verbal interaction between them thus far, making it difficult for H/G to catch up to the series which, as we all know, ends at book 7. And as for the life-saving bond, in that sense Peter Pettigrew has as much a chance with Harry as Ginny. The counter-counters are mainly that Ginny is going through notable offstage character development (compare her at CoS and GoF), and that metastructural evidence- Ginny being the first girl of suitable age Harry sees in the wizarding world, Rowling talking about "poor Ginny, languishing in love for Harry while he asks out- other girls under her nose- but that's just a guy thing" (When talking about what Harry's faults are) and talking about how King's Cross is such a romantic place and she thought Harry just had to go there and meet- *rowling stops herself from continuing to talk*- overshadows the canonical difficulties, since Canon bends to the will of the author, and not vice-versa. A quite well known H/G-oriented website is Gryffindor Tower (www.gryffindortower.net), which offers fan literature (fanfics), fan art and a close Harry Potter oriented community. The Sugar-Quill (Sugarquill.net) although concentrated on R/H has a quite high concentration and some essays on H/G; A friend, Calixa, has a H/G fanfic archive of her own at http://www.geocities.com/aurora_calixa. If you have (or know of) any H/G website with appealing value to the average H/Ger you think should be linked from here, let me know.
