I found it interesting that the sponsored comm link disappears when you sign in as a paid user. I thought sponsored comms had just flopped, but apparantly they're just staying true to their word and not advertizing to paid users.
It was live when I looked at it earlier. They must have turned it off.

There was a while back where there weren't many sponsored comms running (they only last for a month; I don't think they really understand LJ comms), so there probably were none on the front page to begin with.

When I'm signed out I see listings for sponsored comms. They just disappear when I log in.
Honestly, I don't get sponsored comms either. Why not just start a regular comm? They seem like a much better idea from the viral marketing standpoint...
I think the whole idea behind 'guerrilla marketing' has just gotten warped and out of hand. Encouraging a small but dedicated fanbase to spread the love is one thing, but you can't create a fanbase out of nothing.

Yes, that's what I meant about them not getting the point of LJ comms. Most of them have a lot longer lifespan than a month :-P
