Anakin and power

And another brilliant insight from Fernwithy:

Power [is not] Anakin's fixation, except in a secondary way. He wants power, yes, but only because power gives him control, and control stems the fear that things are in fact spinning out of control. As for power itself, I think that his statements in the picnic scene are pretty indicative: he'd prefer someone else--someone wise--had absolute power. He just wants to defend that person.

She's got to be one of the most brilliant SW thinkers out there, especially where Anakin's concerned - that insight, IMO, is dead on. (Was this somewhere on SotJ?)

Comes from his roots as a slave in part, I imagine: not being in control of his own life for such a long time (his whole life could be uprooted in an instant by someone else's decision), then going on to be a Jedi, where he's still not very much in control.
