Keitin was born Keitin Miridh Avram, Alderaaniann citizen, illegitimate daughter of Teludh Avram and Kei Bartoli, Rebel agent. Neither are related to canon characters in any degree of closeness.
Keitin's main claim to Sue-ishness is her position in what I've started to call 'Luke's Harem'—original characters, created by Luke fans, as a love interest for him. However, as that's her raison d'etrê, there's not a lot that can be done about it. She was created for Luke. Kind of like Adam and Eve, really. Only fictional.
Anyway, notch up a point on the Sue-o-meter. I fancy Luke, she gets to marry Luke. Deal with it.
The usual first warning of a Sue is the name. Destiny Riddle, Amber Kenobi, Amaranthine Starshine are all red flag-types. Keitin is called Kei+tin (feminine ending) after her father, and Miridh after her grandmother. The names are relatively easy to pronounce, but don't look specifically Earthly (a menace in the SW universe), and aren't too outlandish. They also don't have any whack-you-up-the-face meaning, although, in Alderaanian, 'Miridh' means 'fire-spirit', and Avram 'wanderer'. Kei is a Free Trader word meaning 'life'.
Physical appearance. Yes, she's pretty, maybe even beautiful, but that was because I couldn't find any models who weren't.
On the other hand, she's thin, flat-chested (A-cup, if SW women wore bras :-P), pale with a tendency to freckle, and has problem hair. When she curled it, it would flop down again, and when she straightened it, it frizzed up and went to little ringlets at the ends. When she put it up it fell down and when she left it down it got in her way. She periodically threatened to cut it but had never yet followed through.
The hair is brown and her eyes are uncompromisingly hazel. To be technical, a ground colour of dark grey with brown flecks. No green whatsoever in them. In poor lighting conditions they may look grey or brown, but it's not my fault if the characters can't actually see right. In holos they probably look red, like most people's in a galaxy quite near here. In Rebel Heart, she describes her appearance in two lines at the end of the first chapter and doesn't mention it again.
Her personality and history; she has no Dark Secret. She had a happy and normal childhood, reared on Alderaan by her grandmother (Bail Organa's ex-nany, btw) in a large and affectionate extended family. Of course this was all blown to kingdom come during A New Hope. She deals with this in what I hope is a realistic way; without overblown angst or the help of a big strong male for comfort sex. She mourns, yes, and winds up being clinically depressed, even resorting to self-harm. However, due to her own innate resilience and a bit of support from a good friend, she manages to pull through it. She's never seriously suicidal—a couple of passing thoughts, that's it—because basically she wants to live, she's a survivor.
She is aged between twelve and twenty-one during Rebel Heart, and therefore at times she acts in an age-appropriate manner; like a brat, in other words. Hopefully in the narrow middle ground between 'unrealistic' and 'unlikeable'.
Abilities: All right, I admit it. She's Force-sensitive to some degree, but she'll probably never make full Jedi. Too old. Too old to begin the training. It shows itself mainly in a native empathic ability, a sensitivity to others' emotional states. She also has a tendency to hunches and a totally unwanted ancestral memory, which takes out the change in nightmares.
Beyond that, she can shoot (she went to the same school as Leia ;) ), fly competently, and is 'reasonably athletic'. As for the dreaded Singing Sue--"I took singing and cookery as electives, which means I can cook and sing. Allegedly." And, yes, her sense of humour is rather sardonic.
Overall? She shows growth as a character, she hopefully isn't nails-on-a-blackboard-annoying to read, and I know I have reasonable plot, characterisation and grammer. So far she has shown no signs of warping canons, the ultimate Sue trait, so hopefully I shall avoid the pages of
starwarssues.
