There is a total lunar eclipse tonight and, happily, the sky is clear. No sign of a shadow yet, it's meant to reach totality at 2045. Apparently it won't be a dark red because there haven't been any volcanic eruptions recently, so not much dust in the upper atmosphere.
We've had totality for a bit now; the moon is a sort of smudgy red, and looks a bit like an artist's impression of Mars. And I can see so many stars! A couple of hours ago there was a full moon drowning them out, but now there are hundreds of them.
