owl: Stylized barn owl (lonely god)

I wish the Doctor had been my physics teacher—I would have married him and had his geeky little Time Lord babies totally done physics at university. Oh, I've already done that.

That was a brilliant episode. I loved the scenes with the Doctor and the headmaster—"I'm so old now. I used to have so much mercy."—and the temptation scene. Oh, he knew how to plant the hooks: Stop the war. Jab. Save everyone. Jab. His companions back, anyone he wanted, right back to Susan. Oh yeah. We had both halves of the lonely god theme in this episode, in that crucial scene even. And then Sarah brought him back down to earth and he got all angrrry and threw a chari, oooh yes.

I thought both sides of the issue were pretty well shown in this episode: on the one hand the Doctor leaves people behind, but on the other he lives on and on and they die. He is an alien, even if he does look very like David Tennant at the minute, and he and his companions never quite understand each other.

That moment when Sarah Jane turns around and sees him standing behind her, oh yes yes yes...

The Doctor's glee about knowing what ASBOs and happy slappers were was beyond cute.

I loved Sarah Jane and Rose bonding over having a good laugh at the Doctor (oh, and they are sooo right about Doctor/TARDIS OTP111!), and his 'waah!' look when confronted by two women pointing at him and shieking amusement (Perhaps he finally took Mickey along in gratitude for that moment of male solidarity in the corridor?) And Rose had so obviously asked the Doctor to ask Sarah Jane to come with them—did you ever see anything so piteous as the way the corners of his mouth went down when she said 'no'? And 'find me if you need me'—it looks like Rose is being set up to leave, eep. I don't understand why she was so annoyed when Mickey asked to come. Surely he's less of a threat than Sarah Jane?
And once again, she managed to miss the emo!Doctor moment—'Everyone else died. They all died but me, Sarah.' What was this, the One Where the Doctor Angsts? I hear the sounds of hurt/comfort fics being tapped out on a thousand keyboards....

Giles—sorry, impossible to think of him as anything else—does a very good evil bat-thing. Must have been all that time in Buffy. The plot device of the Green Spinning Computer Program was a bit cheesy, but the payoff of the effect on the Doctor was worth it, IMO. It doesn't bother me much anyway, because the way some physicists talk, finding the Grand Unified Theory (neat acronym of GUT) practically does make you god.

Mickey was great in this one. 'I'm the tin dog!' He did have a raport with K9....I'm glad he's finally come along, as long as he doesn't get eaten in some future episode. I loved that he saved the day by pulling the plug out. First Question of IT support: Have you tried turning it off and turning it on again? And how cool was K9?!? You are a good dog, K9! I almost burst into tears when the Doctor was leaving him behind to sacrifice himself. And the way he pricks up his...ear-like things whenever the Doctor told him he was a good dog! I'm glad Sarah Jane got a brand new one, even if he's not the same. Also, the Doctor does Hand Porn and Seizing the Torso in a Rescuing Way with practically everyone, the big flooze.

We finally have found something that can't be opened by the sonic screwdriver, but don't worry, the handy robot dog can zap it open with his laser eyes! Sigh.

Poor Sarah Jane never even got her cuppa. The BBC's budget evidently doesn't stretch to a kettle for the TARDIS, then, let alone a kitchen.

And this was one of those little throw-away things, one I didn't actually get until afterwards. The mysterious good fortune of the Doctor's predecessor—how easy is it to win the lottery when you have a time machine?!
