I really should give up Confidential because it generally annoys me, but I keep being sucked in by David Tennant's Paisley accent. Perhaps if I press mute whenever Rusty comes on?

If you didn't have Rusty banging on in Confidential that Rose was the Doctor's TRU LUV, and Martha's LUV is unfortunately unrequited, my natural conclusion would be that Ten loves them both, but isn't in love with either of them (Nine is a different matter). But then Martha said in Family of Blood that it's unrequited, which leads me to think that the Doctor is just a big tease and is still asexual after all.

I don't understand what excuse the Doctor has for still not requiting, because you know by this stage he'd go 'Rose? Oh, yeah, Rose.' Going by what's actually in the episodes, he's been treating Martha pretty much the same as Rose for about 4 weeks now.

Rusty's saying there'll be a payoff for the unrequited luurve in the finale. But apparently the Doctor is not allowed to love requitedly except Rose, what so does that mean for Martha's future? That Martha stops being in love with him, or that she leaves in some way?

I'm getting tired of everyone being in love with the Doctor. It would have been so good if Martha had never been in love with him in the first place.

Doctor: BUT ALL HUMAN WOMANZ FALLZ IN LUV WIT MEE!

Martha: WTF BBQ HUBRIS? I B SNOGGIN GUEST STARZ NAO KTHANXBAI.

Doctor: I SULKZ NAO.

I am trying carefully to have no expectations of Blink, beyond "At least it's the Moff" and, "It can't be worse than Love and Monsters. I do like Martha's jacket, however (check the BBC site).

I generally spend a lot of DWC time fast-forwarding to the relevant bits (i.e., the ones where David Tennant or one of the directors has something intelligent to say). This whole Martha's insta-smit with The Doctor has just bugged the piss out of me all series long, and there had better be a bloody good external explanation for it, 'cos I just don't buy it. I could understand a 19-year-old shop assistant going all starry-eyed in about 2.1 seconds, but a flipping medical student with a good and pretty fulfilling life, aside from her parental melodrama? No.

And I got so foaming at the mouth over Martha, I forgot to say I am looking forward to this week's Confidential since it's DT's episode!

I seem to recall them saying that they didn't want to 'take a tour of the regions,' and so they went with the Estuary accent, which was originally going to be excused as The Doctor having imprinted on Rose much like a baby bird.

They may also be recalling the amount of crap the show originally took when casting Sylvester McCoy, as some members of the public were apparently worried that Scottish elements would 'take over the program.'

For my money, I'd have been perfectly happy with DT's own accent, and his original concept with the spectacles which was to have The Doctor wearing them all the time. Speccies for the win!

Martha and Jack shall gang up on the Doctor, who has been an arse to them both. The Doctor will learn a valuable lesson and stop being an arse to people.
Oh, look, a flying pig.

I would've bought insta-lust much better, thinking of it from this perspective: really hot guy who just saved the planet - snogging you in the process - now he's taken you to meet William Shakespeare and you're sharing a really teeny tiny bed when either of you could've requested separate quarters...

Anyway, if they would've written it/permitted FA to play it more like sexual frustration rather than 'OMG!1! HE IZ MAI WUN TRU LUV!!!1' I would've found it much more believable, especially considering how much older her character is supposed to be than Rose.

I disagree that martha and rose have been treated the same. Yet they are both getting the friendly moments but there is no gratuitous hand holding i can think of so far, no 'i could save the world but lose you'or 'there is no power on this earth that can stop me', no 'i'm so glad i met you', and remember last series the doctor came close to saying i love you, what 4 times? Martha is getting her friendly hugs and smiles but nothing really romantic like rose got.

The thing that really worries me is that one of Russell's personal heroes is Joss Whedon, a man with a nasty rep for killing off popular characters just to emotionally screw over his audience. Russell loved Rose, but Martha? Given the "debunked" rumors earlier about Freema leaving the show, I'm wondering if Martha's gonna survive S3.

Got here from new_who. Rusty sounds like somebody else I know. Take it from a Buffy fan, for the sake of your own sanity, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

God, no wonder this is giving me shipper wars flash backs. It sounds a lot like Joss yanking everyone's chains over Buffy's "One true love." Of course no one will win and Martha's "pay off" will be a heroic death.

I've got everything crossed Martha is in season 4 but I agree that nothing has been debunked. Every statement issued could also mean Freema was just contracted for a single season as well as she is there next year. The bit where Rusty says Martha's unrequited love arc will pay off does worry me a bit though.

Killing off the solo companion (as compared to a secondary companion like Jack) is incredibly brutal, since she's meant to be the kid's POV character, and it's never been done in the whole 44 years of Doctor Who - the one time it did happen, when Peri got killed off, they had to retcon her back to life two stories later. This makes me vacillate between "Rusty was being honest when he said Martha wouldn't be killed off, he wouldn't go there" and "yes he would, for the shock value". :(

there were a lot of 'ten' examples in there as well. i think with martha we are defining what was different and special about the rose/doctor relationship. Look at the conversation in school reunion- its because he loves her he tries to push her away like sarah jane. He doesn't want to see her whither and die. From then on he tries multiple times to say 'i love you'. I think if he was in love with martha he would know to say what he feels before he loses that chance again.

he won't kill her- maybe lure her to the dark side but no death.

Whedon can do wonderful things buffy series 1-3 come to mind and toy story but he lost all my respect with spuffy- ewww... He is a good man to admire when it comes to modern science fiction

lying hmmm... its a bit harsh. i remember him saying if rose and the doctor kissed the show would die on its feet then the ninth doctor kissed rose and was the first to regenerate standing up. A lie or a veiled spoiler?
do you have any other example?

Yes! Seeing Martha make her cow eyes at The Doctor - it's just painful and gets in the way of the plot, IMO.
