Only a week to go now

I finished my re-read of HBP last night. I'd been doing the chapter-a-day thing, but as I came close to the end I wanted to finish it quickly. It's only about the third time I've read the last chapters straight through; I usually skirt Dumbledore's death.

I hope a Potter-free week might foster a little detachment. I feel so fond of Harry and friends at the minute. In that case I probably shouldn't go and see OotP until after next Saturday. Then if Harry dies in DH, I'll have saved a fiver.

Actually I think the death of any of the Trio + Ginny would seriously affect my enjoyment of the series. If Neville, Luna, Remus, McGonagall, Hagrid, Tonks or any of the rest of the Weasleys die, I'd be upset but I could probably handle it. The only spoiler I'd be amenable to is an Everybody lives! one.

I wonder if, when my copy arrives, I'll be able to read it through and not turn to the last chapter before I get to it.

I'm planning to re-read HPB, but that kind of relies on me being able to find it - I think it might be in Peter's room (uh, my husband Peter's room, not anywhere haunted by the ghost of Harry Marlow) but I'm not sure. Which shows how often I've re-read it since it came out, doesn't it?

I will be sad and angry if Neville doesn't make it and upset if we lose Luna or McGonagall, but I'm not hugely fussed about anyone else.

I'll be at rehearsal for the Renaissance Faire all day on the 21st. This means I won't be able to START my read until at least 6 o'clock that night.

The last chapter might not help; JKR usually kills people a few chapters before that. :)

What, not Harry? There are times when I don't actually like him, but because he's the narrator, and we see everything so much through his eyes that I have difficulty imagining Harry's world continuing past his death.

I could be hijjusly wrong, but I don't think Harry's going to die. People keep saying it, in the same sort of 'Hey, I've just had this thought no one else ever had!' tone of voice that they say 'Wouldn't it be funny if the people who went into the Big Brother house were killed off one by one?' but I can't seem to think 'Harry might die' and believe it hard enough to actually work out what I'd do if he did.

Then again, I honestly spent the gap between OOTP and HPB thinking Harry/Luna was going to be canon, so I don't have a particularly good strike rate as a Potter predictor.

I can imagine Harry being killed, but I can't imagine anything going on afterwards, if you see what I mean.
