I have no objection to giving £10 to breast cancer, but I do object to being forced to pay it as a forfeit if I don't wear pink tomorrow. When I give £10 to charity, I'll gift aid it, you idiots, and guess what, the charity will end up with £12 instead.

And also, thanks for telling us the day before, when a) my pink tshirt is at my parents' house and b) Marks and Spencer have stopped selling the 47 varieties of pink tshirt that they were selling whenever I wanted a blue one.

THere's always the option of "I'm sorry, I object to this on principle because such a high flat rate unfairly impacts on lower-paid members of staff. If it is reviewed so that everyone pays the same proportion of their net income, then I may reconsider." Yes, I am a mean-spirited cow who doesn't like being told what to do with my money in order to make other people (ie. the organisers) feel good.

I would object most bitterly. "My daughter the theologian" aka the conscience of the family pointed out verses in the NT to the effect that you should never be seen to be giving to charity. I find myself boycotting my firm's "Charity of the Year", at any rate at work, and she has talked me into not getting charity Christmas cards but getting the (actually very nice) cheapo cards at the local pound shop and shoving off the balance to charities that I keep schtumm about.

Yes, the thing at work is not charitable giving, but social conformity. Bah, humbug, Christmas cards. I try to keep the list to people I actually care about and can make or get really nice cards, and the team at work (social conformity again).

What does your daughter the theologian think about the institution of the church collection? I suppose the little pink envelopes could all be empty, but you know that people are giving even if you don't know how much.

Giving to a charity - any charity - should be a personal choice, not something forced upon you by bosses. And especially in a case like that, you should be able to opt-out. Wearing a pink shirt doesn't mean you care about the cause, and they shouldn't be forcing you to care by saying they'll take your money if you don't at least act like it.

Just on sheer principle I'd challenge their mandate, but that could be because I like being contrary. Heck, in high school when it was school colors day I made sure NOT to wear them. ;)

And furthermore, if they're doing that for breast cancer, would they do it for some other sort of random charity?

What if it was "save the purple people eater" month? Would they order everyone to wear a horn on the top of their head or pay money? Or how about "talk like a pirate day"? Wear an eye-patch or be forced to hand over all your booty. No, probably not...

Yeah. I'm glad I happen to look good in pink, because it's one of my favorite colors to wear, but it infringes on one's freedom of expression to force you to wear pink on a certain day! That pisses me off.

There are a couple of shades of pink that I look good in. The annoying thing is that I've been wanting a pink t-shirt recently, to make a change from blues and greens, but I hadn't seen one I liked yet.

Pink's the colour of a breast cancer charity here in the UK. If you donate they give you a pink ribbon, like the red one for AIDS.

No, no, I totally got that. It's the same over here. It just doesn't make sense to me that they would force you to wear it!
