This information about Frienditto has been making the rounds in the last day or so:

Dear user,

Frienditto is not affiliated with LiveJournal in any way. As such,
this website does not have access to any entries which are not publicly
viewable. If someone provides them with their LiveJournal username and password,
however, it gives this site access to all non-public entries that account
would have access to
. We can only recommend that you do not provide your
username and password to any person or website to ensure the security of your
account.

Additionally, if you believe anyone on your Friends list may
have provided their login information to this website, we can only advise that
you remove them from your Friends list. This website will have access to your
Friends-only entries as long as any person on your Friends list has given the
site access. If any content is present on Frienditto which you do not wish to be
there, you will need to resolve the issue with that
website.

Regards,

Scott

Well, I shouldn't have to say it but...

This stuff is alarming. This service does not only allow for the archiving of your locked posts but, through people giving away their passwords, manages to access other locked posts on that person's flist, thus undermining the whole purpose of locking them in the first place.

As [livejournal.com profile] snarkel pointed out, you don't need to give out your password to archive public entries. Now, my public entries are fair game. As long as it's properly cited, you can repost it anywhere you like. My posts about family, church or university affairs are another matter.

If you are using or have used Frienditto in the past and have given them your password, please tell me now, so I can defriend you. It isn't anything personal, and I shall continue reading your journal, but I value my privacy and the privacy of the people on my flist. My friends-locked posts are friends-locked for a reason. You might not agree with that reason or think that there is anything so very personal in my posts that it justifies locking them, but you should accept and respect my decision. I do not want any locked posts of mine archived, or reproduced, or in any other form accessible to people who are not on my flist. I assume that most people would feel that way about their locked posts.

Remember, folks, never give out your password to any site but http://www.livejournal.com. Thank you.
