Sony's malware

Is there a list anywhere of the CDs that contain Sony's rootkit thing? I thought that I'd seen one somewhere on LJ when I was surfing FriendsFriends or something, but now I can't find it again. Help?

I just had some spam from one Untimely H. Cowslip. Sadly, they were only trying to scam my Ebay login.

they've announced that they'll stop including it, on account of people threatening to boycott their cd's. Pressure is on now for them to provide an uninstaller for computers already infectected-- or so rumor says.

Apparently Microsoft are going to include an uninstaller for it in their next malicious software removal download. Duh, Sony, you virus enablers.

That's good to know.

It's really kind of sad that there's been no legal action about it, though-- honestly, it *is* a virus. It's malicious software that interferes with a computer's normal operations, installed without the consent of the owner. And for all this, We get an "oops, we'll stop?"

I'm not saying it would be practical or even necessarily fair to make them pay reperations to everyone who was effected, but slapping them with some kind of fine really wouldn't be out of order here.

Yeah-- really though, they shouldn't have to sue. Sony broke the law-- the government (state of california, in the one case) should step in and enforce it instead of expecting the citizens to do it for them.

Looks like Italy might be investigating, though. That's something.
