Woe! The series is hastening to its close

Okay, that was even more frightening than last week. The small-child section of the viewers has probably just left in horror. Although the Ood look funny when they crawl. I'm not sure quite what I think of this one.
One of the most terrifying parts, actually, was not the CGI demon, but the recitation of everyone's vulnerablilities: the Doctor's genocide, Ida's childhood abuse, Zach's burden of leadership. I was wondering what it would come up with for Rose, who doesn't seem to get traumatised. The lost little girl...so Rose is afraid of permanent separation form Jackie then? (Jackie for companion 2007!)
The stuff the Doctor was talking about as he abseiled into the pit was a sort of audio tl;dr for me. (
elerinna_amanya was drying her hair in the background too during that part, so I couldn't actually hear much anyway.) I don't much like Christianity being equated with the church of the Tin whatever-it-was. I'm uncomfortable with the devil in Doctor Who, even though it was the sort of Childhood's End effect I called it on last week. Did I pick it up wrong, or is the Doctor the sole member of the Church of Rose? :P We had a differnet take on 'I could save the world but lose you' this time. Has the Doctor started to think of Rose as invulnerable? Resourceful, yes, but enough to beat a black hole's gravity?
Then there's that prediction that she'll die in battle. She's got to leave the show some time...and they do end up in a lot of battles. On the other hand, one of the 'many names' is the father of lies. I don't like being reminded of Rose's looming departure just at a point when she's being splendidly capable and caring, more like her 1st series characterisation. There wasn't much hubris in evidence all round in this one. The setup seemed to call for the lonely god versus Satan, but the Doctor in the pit didn't have any sense of entitlement at all; he was just an ordinary bloke sacrificing himself for the greater good like Mr Jefferson. I was expecting shouty!Doctor and 'this stops here' and all that. And he admitted that he doesn't know everything—was that humility I saw there?? *shock* I was a bit cheesed off that we never did find out what the beast really was. So the Doctor can accept that it came from beyond the universe, but not before it. Could that be a Time Lord thing?
'I could survive thirty feet'? I knew that Ten was a gambler. But, let's face it, he can survive thirty thousand feet; he'll regenerate, only to shortly suffocate as his air runs out. He seemed to fall quite some distance with only a broken faceplate; evidently Time Lords have rubber bones.
I liked the whole dialogue with himself as he worked things out, but how could he know that killing the body would kill the mind as well? What if the rocket had already gone far enough from the black hole to escape? (And how does a rocket cross a distance that's beyond the TARDIS's knowledge, anyway?) Perhaps that was what he meant by believing in Rose? To do the right thing?
I liked how Rose could only threaten Zach. Actually it's a good thing they brought her along, because the Doctor wouldn't have had time to pick up her and Ida. Loved the Doctor's glee as he realised what he'd banged his head on.
I thought Rose was going to shoot Toby with the gun (thought it only worked on people, anyway?) But she shoots up the rocket instead. Ever heard of explosive decompression? Unless she was being self-sacrificial as well. I felt sorry for Toby when we found out he was still being possessed; he was dead meat from that point on. And he was only a bit of a wuss normally, while Danny was a prat. I noticed that while the Ood got deceased reports with their serial numbers, the two security guards never even got names, or a mention after they had been zapped!
Jefferson's death scene was woeful, even worse that Scooti's. Poor Zach having to let out the air. Was Satan!Toby the first person Rose has actually personally killed? I hope we get some effect from that (she was sympathetic to nonpossessed!Toby, after all), or will this series' magically Emotion Reset Button be pressed between episodes again.
Am I the only person who picked up on a bit of a Zach/Ida vibe, or are they just good friends (like the Doctor and Rose, ha!) Go on, Doctor, 'tell her I love her', say it! We allknow it, even if the 'sexual or not' war will Brake Teh Intarwebs. Actually that was the sort of epsiode that makes me shippy, not the sort when their little giggly clique is all shoved in your face and we're told-not-shown that Rose is Teh Speshul. And now she's going to ddiiiiiieeeee in battle, woe.
So, try for a coherent conclusion; I liked the characterisation, specially the Doctor and Rose, didn't like the philosphy of it, plot was standard Doctor who (the skience, it burns), winced at the body count (even if you count the Ood as one entity, it was a lot of characters with speaking parts). I wonder if the Doctor ever will see Ida or the others again? He'll be looking a new companion soon, I suppose. However, they are involved in a future Torchwood—but unless Jack is doing his time-travel thing, they're bound to be a long way from 21st century Cardiff.
Aaand next week: Moaning Myrtle is in it! It looks kind ofOod odd. Where there people tracking done the Doctor and Rose? Could this be something to do with Torchwood?

He fits right in with out lot, who lets face it, only came down out of the trees because they were bored with bananas and fancied a look at the big pussycat with the teeth... :-DRe: Boings in from New_who...

I saw Danny/Ida personally.

Depending on how far into the future they were, we could see them in Torchwood. I mean, weren't they working for them?

Date: 2006-06-10 08:55 pm (UTC)Zach said 'on behalf of the Torchwood Archive'. Perhaps the Archive is a database of alien species that can threaten Earth?
Anyway, the Doctor won't be seeing them in Torchwood because he isn't supposed to appear in the spin-off (did they rule out cameos, though?)

Are they going to resolve the rumoured end-of-series cliffhanger in the special? (I'm going to die of frustration and I'm never going to see how it ends!!!)
