Love and Monsters

owlWell, that was a little...bizarre. It felt a little light to me; I kept thinking that the story was going to start. What was that, the Tennant and Piper working holiday?
I liked the opening part with the Doctor, Rose and the monster chasing each other. Doctor Who in brief: Run Away From the Alien Menace. I liked Elton and his friends, and his interactions with Jackie.
Just because two aliens come from neighbouring planets doesn't mean that they should look anything alike! I did like the detail that Raxicoricofallapatorius' neighbour was called Clum, though.
I was rather weirded out by paving-stone!Ursula. Is that better than no life at all? I thought the Doctor was going to get her back properly and was all disappointed when he didn't.
There really wasn't enough of the Doctor. I suppose that's why it felt so light; we had to be made to care for the people and then the plot could happen. That works better with a two-parter like the previous one. The bits with the most oomph were the ones with Jackie. She remembers Mickey, ooh yeah. She's the only regular so far that seems to catch the emotional fallout Elton was talking about. I could believe in the Magic Hubris Reset Button at the end of each episode if it applied to everyone, but not when it's inconsistent like that. We're really being hit with the Giant Mallet of Foreshadowing for when Rose dies. Or whatever. I don't want this series to end! Not after the last three when it was getting really good!
