The Manage Profile Page now has a series of ticky boxes to pick interests. Yuk. And brad doesn't like it either*.

Aren't those interests overused already without encouraging people to add them? It's practically impossible to search by them because so many users have I've unclicked 'computers', changed 'writing' to 'writing fiction' and 'history' to 'European history', but what about 'books' and 'reading'?

I've made a tag called 'livejournal whinging', because I seem to be doing that a lot lately. I love LJ, and I definitely don't complain about everything; I like the nav strip and the notification system is great. It's just all this ad stuff I don't like. I wouldn't mind seeing a 'this feature is sponsered by' on the page for the SMS, when it arrives, and I'm permanent, so I'm not affected by plus people's ads, but the sponsored comm left a bad taste in my mouth.

On the bright side, the 404 page is fun. Make sure to refresh it a few times! My favourite is the 'All your base are belong to Frank' one.

I am slightly cynically wondering whether 'science of sleep' is going to make its way into the suggested interests along with emo and snowboarding.

I think it's the statistically most chosen interests. But why snowboarding? Is it really so popular?

Hmm. Isn't that a bit cutting off your nose to spite your face? I use interests in common to decide if I want to friend a person, frex. Often they're more useful than the bio.

It may be temporary, but though I used to use interests that way, I haven't for a while, I just go by the content. I've also been working on a bodge version of matching my old profile interests with tags (which I think they were talking about doing anyway when they brought them in). For the present my old "interests" have all become tags, though until I sort them out some will remain unused tags and hence invisible.

Oh, yes, that's true. Though tags aren't anywhere near as visible as interests. They've been around for 15 months and there isn't even a link to to the tag page on the profile. Although there is a link or an incorpoarted tag list in some of the newer layouts, it hasn't been grandfathered in to any of the older ones except Component, as far as I know.

What I want now is a link to the Message Centre from the navigation strip, which I like. Or some kind of integration of the nav strip with the new horizontal bar thingy you see everywhere else.
