The council has put up Christmas lights. Gah.
I passed a woman in the street today selling little bunches of white heather. I didn't know anyone still did that nowadays.
So the American election is over. It always seems weird to me to have only two parties so if you don't like one there's only one alternative. Perhaps they need a Monster Raving Loony Party? In Northern Ireland we have 9 or 10 parties that run, though most of them are raving loonies. My voting doesn't have any effect on who's in power at Westminster, so it's mostly concentrated on Not Sinn Fein Or The Other Lot.

There are more than 2 parties. There's the Libertarian party, the Constitution party, the People's Choice party, etc. None of the other parties have much power or support, though. They're just not big enough. And their candidates are, often, raving loonies. :P

They're rarely, if ever, elected in federal positions. You'll see some in local stuff, but they just don't have enough power to get mentioned in federal stuff. :P

Well, if you ask a member of one party, they'll tell you that the opposing party is the Monster Raving Loony Party :P

Was it the Monster Raving Loony party who had the policy about creating a 99p coin? Because I thought that was a pretty good idea.

We had six parties running for the Senate here in Minnesota. It's just that there are only two who are able to garner a majority, and when you vote for the other parties it only takes away votes from the major parties. That's one of the major reasons why Bush won the last election - some liberals voted for the Green party instead of the Democratic party, and since you don't get to list a second-place choice, their votes hardly counted since Nader (the Green candidate) only got a small percentage of votes. I'm sure all of those people would still have preferred Kerry to Bush, but they are largely the reason Bush won even though the conservatives don't have a true majority.

Hee...I've just moved to a small town from Dublin and a chap came to the door inviting us to the town's Offical Turning-On of the Town Christmas Lights (in 3 weeks time). And we got tapped for a few bob towards the Official Town Christmas Lights Fund, but I'm still feeling all glowy-happy-I-Live-in-a-Commooonity...
