I took my mam out stargazing last night; I don't remember her ever using the binoculars before. I showed her the rewarding ones; the Pleiades, Orion, Mizar the double star in Ursa Major—I used to be able to separate the two with the naked eye when I was a teenager, but my eyes have gone since then. We saw seven shooting stars between us; I can't remember if there's a major swarm at the minute, and they weren't diverging from any obvious point to give me a clue.
