Runaway Bride
Dec. 25th, 2006 08:59 pmThat was really pretty good and left me wishing that the series was going to happen next week instead of months away.
I was expecting Donna to be a bit annoying, and she had an annoying voice but only a little. Also, she slapped the Doctor round the head. Twice! And that made me sad, because it reminded me of Jackie. And she fancied the Doctor and he gave her his clothes but she did not just jump into his TARDIS like all the other girls. Although a series with the companion wearing a wedding dress for the first three episodes would have been made of win.
Okay, we had more references to Rose in an hour than to any previous companion in the history of the world ever. And he mentions her to Martha as seen in the trailer. But he mentions the family too, aw.
So Torchwood One drilled a big hole to the centre of the earth. How? And why? Although, given TW1, 'because it's there' isn't just a reason, it's a business proposal with bullet points, I'm more worried about the how. You wouldn't catch TW Cardiff up to anything like that: Owen and Toshwould be shagging behind the photocopier, Jack and Gwen would be bonding with guns or something, leaving Ianto shovelling away by himself. Torchwood makes a habit of lurking under prominent buildings; I wonder what's on top of 2 and 4 (when 4 was underneath anything)?
The spider queen and the spider ship forming the nucleus of the baby earth were a bit rubbish. You couldn't have seen anything in the middle of a dust cloud, you know. And unfortunately the Santas seem to have become a Christmas special institution, even thought they were originally seen with the Sycorax and have nothing to do with the spider queen. However, it's DW, you expect the plot to be a bit rubbish.
He mentioned Gallifrey! Finally, he mentioned its name! I thought to myself, Surely he can't circumlocute around it again, and he said, 'My home planet...', I groaned, and then he said it. And I squee'd aloud. :) I had little happy shivers down my spine. Ten is great when he is stern but not shouty.
I like the look of the next series. I can't wait to see Martha really in action, though I still do not like her maroon leather jacket, or Ten's blue suit. Will he keep it on all the time now? I miss his pinstripeness. And, ooh, Dalek, Dalek, Dalek!
