I read the Chrestomanci series when I was younger and have just rediscovered it again. I have a couple of questions:
The world in Witch Week has broken off the world that Janet comes from, which explains why there is hardly any magic in it: it's all in the splinter world. But at the end of Witch Week it is returned into the parent world. So was that our world, Twelve B, that has its magic back now? And what would have happened to the Janet in the splinter world, seeing that Janet is now in Twelve A?
It says in The Pinhoe Egg that when witchcraft is removed, it can grow back given time. But that doesn't seem to have happened for Miss Rosalie in Stealer of Souls (I don't know what's going on with her, but Cat says she isn't a witch). So are all Chrestomanci's staff who have their magic removed in The Lives of Christopher Chant stuck that way? Gabriel must have had to get some new helpers. I wouldn't fancy a houseful of teenaged enchanters and only one adult with magic, even if he is the Chrestomanci.

Date: 2007-06-07 10:50 am (UTC)I've always thought that it was our world that got its magic back at the end of Witch Week. That's a great question about the Janet replacement, and I have no idea what would have happened. I'd love to ask DWJ...
I'm never very sure about what The Pinhoe Egg says about the removal of witchcraft - I don't remember LOCC very well, but The Pinhoe Egg would certainly seem to contradict Charmed Life where the removal of the the bad uns' magics seemed pretty permanent.
