Anyone ever read Chanur's Legacy?

I'm trying to work out what happened with Chanur-at-home between the
end of the trilogy and Chanur's Legacy. At the end of Chanur's
Homecoming Pyanfar says that Hilfy will have to find a husband to
challenge Kara Mahn and throw him out of Chanur holding, but in Legacy
it seems that Kohan was reinstated as clan lord, because he dies of
natural causes and only after that does Hilfy's husband step in and
try to take Chanur. And then Rhean brought back the cousin
I'm not sure what Hilfy means by her succeeding Pyanfar as 'head-of-
clan' (Pyanfar never seemed to be running anything but the Pride, it
was more Rhean), or denying to herself that Chanur was in exile.
They've got the land back now, so how could even the conservative hani
think they were in exile now?
