I didn't really get into the story itself. Probably because I knew Kylie wasn't going to stick around (and I guessed she'd die) so I wasn't getting too attached to her.

What I really liked was the way that London had emptied, going on what happened the previous two Christmases. And the Queen sticking it out in Buck House. And the evacuation scene with the Corgis! And the pink slippers! And the perfect timing, just as the Beeb announcer says they made it through the night. And the 'Thank you, Doctor!' as the Titanic does a U-turn into the sky at the last minute.

"Alons-y, Alonzo!" Groan.

The death toll was a bit grim for Christmas, wasn't it? It was like, ooops, canon fodder dropping like flies here. I did like the bit where the Doctor goes I'm not going to lose another one. (And then promptly does.) I suppose it's too much to hope for that he should carry the lesson into the new year's series? Nah, thought not. Also, the three white males live, the women, the black guy and the cyborg alien dwarf die. Not cool, Rusty.

SCARY TIEM LORD moments when he was getting them all to follow him through the ship "I'm a Time Lord from planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous, and we'll forget the next bit cos I'm not going to get you all out alive." (That's more info in five minutes than Rose got in two years). Also after Astrid has just driven into the large pit and DIED. DT does do grim and bleak loss rather nicely. But the flying angels thing was a bit TinkerbellJesusDoctor, wasn't it? Although the drama was somewhat defused by the Doctor's dangling Converses.

Kylie was cute. I liked her squee about concrete and shops. And her boots were exceedingly nifty. And she turns into sparkly blue stardust which is slightly cheesy but sad. But the Doctor snogs her without it being a genetic transfer or anything. And she snogs him standing on a first-aid box!

The Oncoming Lonely Storm God got a bit of a dent to his self-confidence, didn't he? He failed to save Astrid or the other 56 survivors, and then the credit card guy says that if he chooses who lives and who dies, he'd be a monster. Well, he has and he is, ne? Try opening your ears, Doctor. Perhaps they actually listened when we complained? Or realised the corner they'd written themselves into?

Preview for next series squee! Donna! Donna being mouthy! Explosions! Ood! Ma Martha! Also Torchwood trailer. Gwen going 'the things I've seen'. Martha strapped to a bench in crucified mode, what is all the Christian imagery about, Rusty? But there will be totally cracked-out Welsh alien drama, yay!

*I think the Three Time Lords of the cut should be the Doctor, Romana and the Master

Gnargh, and I was grumpy that the wife was the one who jumped into the engines when it could so easily have been the husband in that role *fumes*

I thought the death toll was a good thing in a way - the Doc ain't God and he can't always stop everything.

Oooh, next season, Donna, Martha! Excellent (hopefully)!

i couldn;t really get into the episode, i found it a bit formulaic. but I did like the doctor labelling himself "passenger 57" that made me laugh. that old historian guys going to get a bit of a shock when he finds out how little a million quid will actaully buy him in london tho

contrived, groanworthy, and just not very loveable.

The only good bit was Astrid being a bit cute and the whole of London emptying because of previous christmasses :)

The death toll was a bit grim for Christmas, wasn't it?
so many killed, and murdered and sacrificed. At christmas? not fun. Also, as you said, why was it the three white men survived, hey, Rusty?

But the flying angels thing was a bit TinkerbellJesusDoctor, wasn't it?
exactly what I thought, and that didn't go down to well either. (when he took their arms like edwardian ladies going for a stroll I thought there was something a bit strange going on... Rule 34's application here scares me

kylie was cute. but there was far too much snoggage. In the whole of the new Doctor Who actually. and wait a minute... where was the plot?

pretty preview though. I hope Donna isn't too annoying and that Martha whips the Torchwood ass.

Merry Christmas!

I kept thinking 'they all used those suspiciously Blakes 7 teleport bracelets, how about trying to get Foon or Morfin or Unpronounceable Little Spiky Dude back?' throughout the bit where we were supposed to be sniffling over See-Through!Kylie. But the first-aid box was a very cute moment and I liked that the villain wasn't yet another Horror From Before Time.

I'm really looking forward to Donna coming back. I hope she and Martha get to be kick-ass together.

As soon as she asked to come with him, I was all "Oh, way to SIGN YOUR OWN DEATH WARRANT Astrid!" :p

And it was rather rocks fall everyone dies. I mean, even The Poseidon Adventure let SIX people live. :p

I HEARTED the fact that London was deserted because people notice patterns. "All my Christmases are like this!" :p

The Christian imagery is more than a little heavy handed. :p

My family were also highly entertained when the Doctor told old not-cute man 'I travel alone', to which we all added 'unless you're young, blonde and cute'. :D

There should be more bleak!Tennant, he does it so well. And - yeah, way to go on the survivors, Rusty. I mean, he knows there's a huge fandom watching (not that he shouldn't thinking about it anyway, but he should realise by now that a lot of us don't dig that sort of 'message', however unintentional), so why doesn't he think these things through occasionally.

"Also, the three white males live, the women, the black guy and the cyborg alien dwarf die. Not cool, Rusty."

Yeah that's pretty much what I said. Although I guess it mirrors the judgementalism male Titanic survivors had to... no. Nevermind, it doesn't.

I also noticed they were all sad about Astrid at the end but never mentioned any of the others. When what's-his-name said "I won't forget her" I wondered why he couldn't have just said "them."

Yeah, it was pretty grim for Christmas. Someone needs to take Rusty's SW dolls away from him, but there were a few moments I liked.

Happy Boxing Day, by the way... I know I'm an hour late, but meh :)

Oh good, I'm glad it's not just me who's pissed off about that. I've been muttering about that since Tuesday. Also, the fact that even though the people who played jokes on the fat couple were clearly shown to be wrong, there was still an underlying feeling that fat people are laughable and pathetic, which is really not a message I'm comfortable with.
