Time for a new spinoff series!



The Jenny Who Adventures!

I wasn't expecting to like Jenny so much, but it was lovely to see the Doctor gradually accepting her, and her learning from him and Donna (you could just see her watching them). And she was another soldier character that the Doctor bonded with, like Ross, and she was so pleased when she didn't kill the other soldiers. And she called him out on killing people, yay.

I knew that she was a guest character, so I was on tenterhooks waiting for her to be killed off, and then when she was shot I was shouting 'Regenerate! Regenerate!' I squeed loudly at the TV when I saw the golden light of Time-Lordiness. And now she's flown off out into the universe, all new and shiny and full of bright possibilities.

Minor point, why didn't she regenerate properly? I mean, was she dead?

Loved Martha healing her captor, that being a doctor is the first thing she thinks about, and "I'm Doctor Martha Jones, who the hell are you?" She really is a Doctor in her own right now.

"I love this bit." Yay Martha!

"There's always something worth living for. Doctor Jones." Ah, a better goodbye scene. SHE BE BACK, though.

The week's war and the Chinese Whispers mythology was interesting. I'd sort of come to the Chinese whispers conclusion myself, but not the timeframe! The terraforming thing was a bit Genesis, taken together with the seven days.

I loved Donna rocking the Dewey Decimal System and being really good with numbers and generally being her smart-mouthed self. Don't say "forever", Donna! See what that did to Rose!

Donna's feminine wiles! And the Doctor wanting to save them in case of an emergency! And also, clockwork mouse for the win.

Loved all the Doctor's PTSD and his EMO WOE for his dead children, and the way he wouldn't acknowledge Jenny at first and kept brushing her off, and his change until the moment when you thought he was about to go all Oncoming Storm on the Colonel, and then "I never would." And, oh, he does angst so beautifully.

Love the irony about looking up 'genocide' in the dictionary and seeing the Doctor's face there to stop it, considering that he's committed double genocide himself.

I take it they are wanting to bring Jenny back at some point. It was totally TARDIS Nuclear Family with the Doctor and Donna, heh.

So...the TARDIS brought the Doctor there just so that Jenny could be created, hmm?

I thought it was utter rubbish. Didn't make a great deal of sense in places (what, you'll inflict eternal punishments on someone for snatching away a bit of potential happiness but not even lay a hand on the guy who murdered your daughter, Doctor? You make even less sense than the average anime) and felt hideously rushed. The Doctor getting a daughter, coming to accept her, and then losing her. That's a lot more than a single episode worth of material.

And he took his daughter's death too easily. Emo woe of doom for the genocidal monster who happens to share a species with him but not even a tear for his daughter, even if she was a bit, umm, abnormal in her origins? Sense, it makes none.

2/5 from me, and that's because, no matter how bad I thought it was, it doesn't deserve to be ranked with Torchwood of that abysmal Dalek two-parter last series.

Well I was totally unspoilt for this and I loved it. Jenny came across as a more innocent version of the Doctor - intelligent but childlike in her enthusiasm.

I don't think she regenerated though. She got caught up in the life-giving terraforming that was going on - that green breath that came out of her mouth was the same as the terraforming gases from the globe, and the fact that she didn't change when she came back to life. Anyway, I agree, definitely wouldn't mind a Jenny spin-off.

The light looked to me like the golden light from the Doctor's and the Master's regenerations. Time for a rewatch, I suppose.

Well, I loved it. I adore the character of Jenny and hope against all hope that she will return. 10/10.

Well, I feel completely stupid. Didn't catch the seven days creation bit, good for you! I agree Jenny, she'll be back, and she rocks! I totally didn't expect to enjoy this ep, and lo and behold, I loved it. Donna named her, and some how, that felt perfect. Didn't you love how she stole the ship just like the Doctor stole the Tardis? She's just like him, and it was amazing! did you notice how the mark on his hand looked like the mark on Jamie from The Empty Child? Makes me wonder if that means something, or if the art department was just having a bit of fun. Hey, maybe they had leftover decals from season one, lol. Loved the ep:)

I hadn't noticed the similarity in the marks. You're probably right about the make-up department reusing effects. Or I like to think so because I have a sneaking fondness for the days of spaceships with visible strings and All Alien Planets Are the Same Quarry.

I was so sure the episode would be awful because of Jenny, but they made it WORK and I love her and I loved her with the Doctor. (Poor Doctor. Everything he loves gets SHOT.)

I figured the war had been going a lot shorter than they thought, but I didn't peg it as a week.

Yes, I was expecting it to be a stinker, based on the preview, but was mostly pleasantly surprised by how it turned out.

Poor Doctor. He needs a hug.

I thought her regenerating without regenerating thing was akin to the doctor growing his hand back (which they reminded us of) because he was in the fresh stages of regeneration. She was in the fresh stages of generation so maybe she was able to grow back her heart(s) and the puff of energy was a callback to him in the Christmas Invasion spewing the same stuff.

When I saw the teaser, I was like "oh dear dog, please tell me they're actively trying to mock Mary-Sues!"

I thought it was nicely done how they handled her, but I fear the fanfiction we'll have to wade through because of it (how many fangirls does it take to crash the Pit of Voles? Thirty. Fifteen to post bad JennyWho fic, eleven of that first fifteen to get into flame wars with each other for stealing each other's stupid ideas, ten more to go round posting "OMG, u r so origenol! PLZ RITE MOAR!" on the first fifteen's stories, and five to write LOTR crossovers where Jenny falls madly in love with Legolas, Aragorn, or both). She has pretty much all the classic elements of an obnoxious sue, right down to the hair color. And yet somehow, they made her work. Hats off to them.

Why didn't her appearance change when she regenerated, is my question?

And I caught the dictionary thing too. When he said "you'll find my picture next to it with the caption..." I thought he was going to explain his life story as a lesson. I love that Martha only got in on the trip by accident.

I didn't care much for the way they killed off her Hath friend, though. I kept thinking "dude, he's a fish. He can just swim," and so I didn't get that they were actually killing him and not just pretend-killing him so they could have a teary "just kidding, he's alive" scene until the episode was practically over.

I love that Donna's actually pretty clever. I really didn't like her in the Christmas Special, but now that she's a companion proper, they've rounded her out quite nicely.
