I was buying boots to go to university at the end of the month. The news reports were pretty garbled (it was early afternoon for us), and the first we heard was abouth the plane crashing in PA. We were worried becasue we have friends there. The we got home, and all the TV channels were just looping the footage over and over.

I'm going to add a couple more:
14. Evidence of a link between BSE and vCJD discovered (20/3/1996)
I was sitting at the kitchen table doing my homework, and Da put on Farm Gate as usual. It was just like your whole world was shaken. I can remember how we just all went quiet. Even the little ones knew this was trouble. (And there was, the farming industry's in a huge slump)
15. Omagh bomb (15/8/1998)
We were on holiday in Louth, in a caravan. Someone had a little portable radio, and I remember standing barefoot in the grass listening to the news.
