Comment on this post, and I will choose seven interests from your profile and ask you to explain what they mean, and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your journal so that others can play.
flight of the heron
The title of the first in a trilogy of books by DK Broster, set during and after the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745. It was one of my earliest fandoms, of which I was practically the sole member.
luke/keiten
Okay, this is kind of embarrassing. Luke Skywalker +Mary Sue Keiten Avram, from Rebel Heart. Yeah, shipping my own characters, what can I say?
arthur ransome
The author of the Swallows and Amazons children's book series. It's a classic, and it's brilliant. If you've never read it, what are you waiting for?
county down
The county where I was born and grew up. I'm currently living just across the river, but Belfast doesn't really count. All Irish counties are named in English with the word 'County' in front, unlike the counties of England. It's often abbreviated to Co. when it's written down, which causes confusion to outsiders. I was telephoned once by someone in NHSCR wanting to check an address, and she said "Bryansford Road, Newcastle, Codown". I explained, while trying carefully not to laugh.
vorkosiverse
A contraction of "Vorkosigan universe", the world created by Lois McMaster Bujold in her series of SF books featuring Miles Vorkosigan and his parents. They're brilliant, definitely recommend them to anyone who hasn't read them.
roman britain
What it says on the tin; the period in which Britain was the Roman province of Britannia. I got into via Rosemary Sutcliff's historical YA fiction in this setting; I think she's also in the interests list.
tengwar
The writing system (it's not really an alphabet because the sound assigned to each character can change depending on the language represented), invented by JRR Tolkien for his invented Elvish languages, Quenya and Sindarin. Inventing your own language and a way to write it is just cool. I have invented an alphabet myself, and made a font out of it.
In other news, it's still raining. There's a severe weather warning on the Met Office website. Sadly, today is the day our church's camping holiday starts. And because it's been raining all week, the campsite will already be a sea of mud...
