owl: Charlie and a blackboard. With equations. (maths)
[personal profile] owl

Even though this was the Don-whump episode, it was really all about Charlie, wasn't it?

I'm not sure I like Charlie's new office. The old one was, well, brighter. Seriously, is lighting that expensive?

Charlie has no blackboards, so he'll write on boxes (or any available flat surface, like windows.) I like how Alan and Amita rolled their eyes but continued to move Charlie's stuff. And there seems to be rather a lot of it.

I wanted to hug Charlie when he was all bewildered and not really knowing what time it was or what he'd been meant to do for Don. It reminded me of s1 Charlie, and it's very like what happens to people in work when you realise that they're debugging or designing in their heads instead of actually talking to you.

Eeep Dooooonnnnnnniiiieee! I'm glad that I was spoiled for things involving Hello Kitty balloons before the episode, otherwise I'd have choked in the scene where Don's heart stops. As it was, I had to go to audio-only. Although, isn't it kind of a cliché to have a character go into cardiac arrest as the surgeon talks to the family?

I liked the scenes between Alan and Robin. He's already close to Amita, now he's bonding with his other potential daughter-in-law. I wonder if people will say she's cold, after that scene outside with her poor nose all red and still holding her phone like she hadn't let go of it since hearing the news, and her face through the window as they pulled the curtains across.

How adorable was that story of Alan singing Sgt Pepper to a newborn Donnie? All together: Awwww!

I snorted at Colby's sigh of disgust when the suspect too off. And that swimming pool dive has to be the best take-down yet.

I liked the team dealing with Don nearly dying: Nikki beating herself up, Liz harking back to the time they were dating, but still realising that Nikki needs comforting, David bearing the responsibility of keeping the team running, Colby freaking out. I didn't like Colby talking like Don let him torture suspects every other week. It was one time, and Don's been feeling the effects of it ever since. Although I did like that it wasn't really the 24-esque trope of torturing for information (which doesn't actually work in real life), but Colby losing it completely and going all you put my friend in hospital so I'm gonna break your $%&£$ FINGERS. And David has learned that whenever one of his co-workers pulls the blinds in he interrogation room, get in there fast. (Incidentally, I love how David with his tough background is the gentlest and most straight-up of the whole lot of them.)

I liked Nikki admitting she's generally too cocky, and her and Charlie saying about Don protecting them. "He's been doing that for me my whole life." <3

Poor Charlie! Ironically, he wasn't actually wrong about the number of people in the crew, and I don't know that they could have worked out that they were looking for a person without knowing that the fifth man was there. Okay, he missed all the victims having the same financial advisor at first, but so did the rest of the team. Really, they don't need Charlie to work that one out. So it ended up more a variation on the 'The last thing I said to him...' than really all Charlie's fault.

I liked Amita getting him diverted into working to distract him from the killer guilt trip, and fuelling him up with coffee, and the 'Don't be a hero' scene.

Sneaky the way they did the decoy scene to make it look like Charlie had just run off on his own again. And then the Feds appeared with their laser sights trained on Genocidal Guy, and Nikki sometimes missing high. And David asking was Charlie going to pick up the diamonds, and Charlie crouching down to do it and just covering his face with his hands.

Charlie's really grown up since the start of the show. S1 Charlie would have spent the entire episode in the garage with P vs NP.

Three Hello Kitty balloons? I have to hope that at least one was a joke rather than that they couldn't find anything else. And I'm sure cold brisket wrapped in tinfoil is just what Don would like right at that point.

The Eppes boys once again show their mastery of cryptic communication ad saying "I love you loads" with nothing but big brown eyes. Poor Charlie, I just wanted to hug him. Or Don to. I don't like the thought of Charlie giving up his mathematical work to do Don's work, because I think Don would win, but it would be a close thing, and it would tear Charlie up. Poor boy's never going to be really happy either way :(
