It seems like about a month since I last posted. We've done a Holiday Bible Club and visited the nursing home to sing psalms, open airs and an enormous leaflet drop (4000!) in the town, Kinallen, Waringsford, Hillsborough, Donaghcloney, Blackscull, Dennison's Corner and a few areas of Banbridge. The legs are just about walked off me.
Wednesday had the most excitements, I think. The night before the mist started coming up from the river and lying in the hollows in the front field, and creeping up the orchard field until the house was an island. We started leafleting in the morning in Donaghcloney with the sun burning off the mist, and finished in Banbridge with the dew falling.
Brian's car broke down in Donaghcloney, which we could have done without. He asked, Does anyone smell burning? and I said, It smells like burning popcorn. At that point we saw smoke rising from the steering column, and Brian switched off the engine, crying, Everybody out! Naomi did some phoning and David McCullough came out in the people carrier to rescue us, rather tight for time as he had to conduct a funeral in Dromara 50 minutes later! One of our member's father went out with him later and nursed the car back home again.
Two small boys made professions of faith up at the Thornhill club, which was very encouraging, and they came to the congregational barbecue on Thursday night. One of the nice things about the HBC was that I got to know our own kids much better. John, Rebekah and Isaac are so sweet!
