How do you feel about the way that Northern Irish politics is dominated by the split between unionists and nationalists, with the main national parties never getting a look in?

As an outsider, I've always looked at it as an outsider and figured that it must be a pretty depressing state of affairs. I think I'd feel cut off from the democratic process if I had no chance to voice my satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the government, and I'd hate that. Does it feel like that from the inside?

The MPs that get as far as Westminster (Sinn Féin refuse to sit; bet they still claim expenses though!) have traditional alignments with the main parties. I do feel that the Westminster government don't really give heed to NI and would be glad to get rid of it if they could. There is also the Stormont parliament, when they aren't busy throwing their toys out of the pram, do legislate on things like grammar schools and sheep, so they do feel very local. Complete with bigotry local, too.
What annoys me sometimes is that the unionist/nationalist division is another axis for me to disagree with parties on, like the whole 'I like your social policies but your economics suck' issue I have.
