Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Jul. 16th, 2005 02:53 pmBrilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Better than OotP; right up there with, if not PoA, then CoS and GoF anyway.
( SPOILERSBLAHFISHCAKES )
I want Book 7. Now, in fact. My flist has gone dead as everyone frantically reads.

Waiting for you-know-what....
Jul. 15th, 2005 06:18 pmI don't understand these people who accidently bought HBP and then returned it. In their position I should be silently gloating. I'm just hoping that my copy gets here on time. amazon.co.uk doesn't have and outstanding track record for next-day deliveries to Northern Ireland.
I feel I ought to have an appropriate LJ layout, but I'm sticking with my new Doctor Who one. I'm impressed by my banner. The TARDIS is a good graphic to work with, nice sharp edges. Doctor and Rose and the TARDIS, Doctor and TARDIS, Jack, Doctor, Rose, Rose and TARDIS, Jack and TARDIS...anyone noticing a pattern here?
*hides from spoliers*
narcissam has posted the first chapter. I vill be stronk! < /Otto Chriek>

My baby conlang
Jul. 14th, 2005 10:03 pmI found this in an old notebook. By the state of my handwriting I must have been about 12-14.
( Phonology )
It looks like Irish with a bolt-on vowel system. Sadly, I wasn't using the fada with any sort of consistency. It's interesting to see the early appearance of my favourite dipthongs, ai and ei.
( Vocabulary )
I note that plurals seem to form with -an, and to my amusement, I started with the irregular verbs. Nam for man, how creative.
It didn't seem to have a name, and it certainly has no current descendants. But it's fun to see how early I started.

Playing with LJ Archive
Jul. 13th, 2005 09:45 pmThis is a nifty tool available from http://fawx.com/ljArchive/
The month I posted most was November, 2003 at 69 entries. Least (not counting current month) was September, 2004 with 8.
Uncommon words I used most: Harry (311)
Luke (289)
Leia (264)
[
sueparsons's AIM screen-name] (229)
Hermione (180)
Ron (174) (close to Hermione :-D)
Han (168)
[
ivylore's AIM screen-name] (152)
Anakin (143)
Doctor (124)
Rose (123) (It must be an OTP!!1)
Ginny (118)
anyone (112)
star (105)
fic (103)
interests (101)
stuff (100)
actually (99)
wars (98)
jediowl (95)
jedi (95)
potter (94)
jack (93)--okay, it can't all be Harkness. And I shouldn't have thought it was Sparrow either. Aubrey?
lot (86)
Okay, bored now, I'll do the highlights:
padmé is 70, hornblower 60, skywalker and keitin 50. bail is 45, so is neville and draco is 44. (By that reckoning they're a better ship than R/Hr. This is all
ajhalluk's doing.) Chocolate is 41, canon, Wedge and TARDIS (!) are 40. Vader is 29, Solo 29, Adam is 27 (bwah?), natalie is 17, luna is 15, mickey is 12, artoo is 10.
I used bloody 18 times, icon 34.
Comments:
ladyaeryn (87) and
ravenclaw_devi (82) are in first and second place,
ivylore (60),
snarkel (55) and
padawanroo (54) are well up there, and
yubsie's (49) determined spamming campaign (no one does it like the HM's) has let her overtake
doyle_sb4 (44).

Comments:
I found an old Pirates of the Caribbean fic, and put it up on the Pit of Voles:
A Distant Sound of Cannon
They have an extremely annoying word limit on their summaries, and they don't allow hyphens in the title or summary. I had to change 'far-off' to 'distant'. Bother them.

Jul. 12th, 2005 09:38 pmIt's been really hot the past two days. I've been wearing shorts but I haven't got tanned at all. I'm not burned either, I never burn, but I'm still just white. I have weird skin.
Last night there were about five eleventh night bonfires we could see from the house. Because it was still the smoke went really high into the sky.
I'm not aat all pleased about the stupid EU ruling about food supplements. I wonder how much the pharmaceutacal companies paid for that? I don't seem why I should be forced to have Lemsip when I have the cold instead of curing it with Vitamin C. And if they ban Echinacea, they've just about cut my working ability by a third.

Jul. 9th, 2005 09:47 pmSaturday night Tv is totally pants now. *sad face*
There was a thing on RTE (very fuzzy as always with Republic channels) about the Tall Ships. Pretty, pretty ships (and barques and ketches and stuff). They were playing the music from the end of the Master and Commander film, the jiggy sort of piece where Jack strums the violin and Stephen plays the melody and then they swap over and the crew are dashing around everywhere madly busy...
Still miss Doctor Who madly.

It's just over a week until we get NEW CANON!! I've had this hanging about my hard drive for a while, and I thought I'd better post it before it gets Jossed (Rowling'd, whatever).
A Minor Pothole on the Road to Revolution
Hermione and Ron finally talk to each other about S.P.E.W., and both of them learn something.

Dr Who fic
Jul. 6th, 2005 08:30 pmConversation in a Gaol Cell
Rating: 12+ or so.
Pairings: Jack/Rose (jokingly), Doctor/RoseTARDIS, Doctor/Rose (hinted).
Spoilers: All of the first series, in particular PotW.
Unbeta'd, so concrit is very welcome. This is a companion piece to my earlier fic, Chasing the TARDIS, but you don't really have to have read it to read this. All you need to know is it's post-PotW, and Jack's back.
"I was only saying hello," Jack complained. "How was I meant to know it was illegal on this planet?"
"Jack, the way you say hello ought to be illegal on any planet."
