I found this in an old notebook. By the state of my handwriting I must have been about 12-14.

Phonology )

It looks like Irish with a bolt-on vowel system. Sadly, I wasn't using the fada with any sort of consistency. It's interesting to see the early appearance of my favourite dipthongs, ai and ei.

Vocabulary )

I note that plurals seem to form with -an, and to my amusement, I started with the irregular verbs. Nam for man, how creative.

It didn't seem to have a name, and it certainly has no current descendants. But it's fun to see how early I started.

PotC fic

I found an old Pirates of the Caribbean fic, and put it up on the Pit of Voles:

A Distant Sound of Cannon

They have an extremely annoying word limit on their summaries, and they don't allow hyphens in the title or summary. I had to change 'far-off' to 'distant'. Bother them.

It's been really hot the past two days. I've been wearing shorts but I haven't got tanned at all. I'm not burned either, I never burn, but I'm still just white. I have weird skin.

Last night there were about five eleventh night bonfires we could see from the house. Because it was still the smoke went really high into the sky.

I'm not aat all pleased about the stupid EU ruling about food supplements. I wonder how much the pharmaceutacal companies paid for that? I don't seem why I should be forced to have Lemsip when I have the cold instead of curing it with Vitamin C. And if they ban Echinacea, they've just about cut my working ability by a third.

I will be strong! It's only 5 more days!

I'm getting quite happy and anticipatory now :)

Saturday night Tv is totally pants now. *sad face*

There was a thing on RTE (very fuzzy as always with Republic channels) about the Tall Ships. Pretty, pretty ships (and barques and ketches and stuff). They were playing the music from the end of the Master and Commander film, the jiggy sort of piece where Jack strums the violin and Stephen plays the melody and then they swap over and the crew are dashing around everywhere madly busy...

Still miss Doctor Who madly.

It's just over a week until we get NEW CANON!! I've had this hanging about my hard drive for a while, and I thought I'd better post it before it gets Jossed (Rowling'd, whatever).

A Minor Pothole on the Road to Revolution

Hermione and Ron finally talk to each other about S.P.E.W., and both of them learn something.

Conversation in a Gaol Cell
Rating: 12+ or so.
Pairings: Jack/Rose (jokingly), Doctor/RoseTARDIS, Doctor/Rose (hinted).
Spoilers: All of the first series, in particular PotW.
Unbeta'd, so concrit is very welcome. This is a companion piece to my earlier fic, Chasing the TARDIS, but you don't really have to have read it to read this. All you need to know is it's post-PotW, and Jack's back.

"I was only saying hello," Jack complained. "How was I meant to know it was illegal on this planet?"

"Jack, the way you say hello ought to be illegal on any planet."

My family have bought a popcorn-making machine. I can't decide whether it looks more like R2-D2 or like a Dalek.

I think I have an overdose of fandoms. Revenge of the Sith and HPHBP and shiny new Doctor Who, all in the space of four months or so? Waah, too much!

Okay, okay, I admit it. David Tennant is absolutely adorable sort of cute. I'll miss EcclesDoctor, but I'm one of the ones that's hopeful about Ten(nant).

Heh. According to imdb.com, his real surname is McDonald and his father's a Church of Scotland minister.

I foresee that when the new series starts there'll be lots of fics where 10 tells Rose 'I'm no Casanova' (just before they get to the smut, natch), and all the authors will think they're the first to think of it and that they're incredibly witty. Oh well, it'll make a change from him calling her a 'stupid ape' all the time (PET PEEVE!!)
owl: Stylized barn owl (owl)
To think that's it's two whole weeks since the end of the programme! *twitches*

I was at Sainsbury's yesterday, and I reached a hand into the potato bread on my way past, but I came up with, not Ormo 4-pack potato farls, but a Doctor Who tie-in novel. I wasn't greatly tempted by it, although that may change by September or so when I'm screaming 'Not another Doctor-and-Rose-have-a-baby fic! Give me plots!! Plotsss!!!!'.

Anyway. For the first time I saw what the people who own the copyrights are driving at when they crack down on fanfiction. No matter how much Harry Potter fic I read, I'll still buy the books (and probably see the films, unless the divergence from canon becomes utterly unbearable). I've sent many, many pounds into the LucasFilm coffers. I've bought cinema tickets and videos and even a few EU books. Fanfiction isn't stopping me from buying the other bEUks, because frankly I wouldn't read them if you paid me.

Doctor Who, on the other hand...it depends on the quality of the writing, but if I can get my fix from free fanfic, why should I buy the books? This is true even more of the shippers. The programme itself is wildly shippy (too much so, IMO. Subtext, people), but it is shown at 7pm, therefore there are things that aren't going to happen on it (I sincerely hope).

The tie-in novel issue explains why Lucasfilm and the Beeb are more uptight about fanfic than JKR. Part of the solution, of course, would be to hire writers who a) are functionally literate and b) have actually seen the source material (Courtship of Princess Leia, I'm looking at you).

I had my haircut yesterday (and we washed the dog's hair, too, very splashily), and today we were in Lisburn buying clothes. I have a black skirt, and two tops which I can't choose between, as well as the one I already had. [livejournal.com profile] elerrina_amanya's contribution to this was 'You can't wear black with colours!', but I don't really like the penguin look.

I'm pretty much expecting to not get this, and then either way I shan't be disappointed. I've been reading over the stuff they sent me. It's familiar, but not totally so, in that annoying way when you can't quite remember things. It's, weirdly, like swotting up for an exam.

Lurkers out there, yo, today's your day. Whether you're a LJ-lurker or from
someplace outside reading this journal, you are the reason this journal
isn't locked by default. So, come out and say 'hi' or something. Tell
me what you're doing here, how you feel, who you are, whatever. No need
to be shy.

AND tell if you are a regular reader of this journal
or just like to drop in when I'm being snarky or whatever. You can tell
me what you like and what you don't like about it. It's okay, I have
pretty thick skin. Well, sometimes ;)

Or just drop in to say
hi... because it would be nice to know if there's more than the same 8
or 10 people that gets good use out of this journal, you know what I
mean?

How to use moodthemes )

Comment, credit me in your userinfo, don't
bother hotlinking unless you can make a theme out of the only 6 pics on the
server. Some of the moods have alternative pics for them inside the ZIP file.
You can choose which ones to use and upload. If the server goes down down me an
email for the ZIPs.

Other moodthemes may be found here.

I've been swotting up on CT and stuff for my interview. They sent out a wodge of stuff on it, along with map etc, which seems a bit weird. It's like trying to revise for an exam. I did manage to impress my mam with my mad scanning knowledge, though. It's the mathematics of it where I go a bit wobbly, unfortunately.

I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] elerrina_amanya, but I'm only getting around to it now. I'm lazy, what can I say?

Post five things you enjoy, even when no one
around you wants to go out and play. What lowers your stress/blood
pressure/anxiety level? Post it to your journal, and then tag 5 friends
and ask them to post it to theirs.

—Reading. Anything in the world, practically. Fiction, non-fiction, fanfiction...it's the most fun anyone can have by themselves :)
—Writing. It's not really a stress-reliever all the time, as it can put you under a lot of stress when it won't work, but I wouldn't be without it.
—Surfing teh net. Remember how weird that used to sound when they first came up with it? Just Googling around for things I'm interested in, no pressure to look something up or do anything.
—Livejournalling. It's not quite the same as the preceding. It's something that I never get tired of. There's always a shiny new community, or someone has made a thought-provoking post, or I've seen a new icon and have to rearrange my icons to fit it in, or if the worst comes to the worst I can always muck around with my layout.
—Nothing at all. Especially in bed when you're all snug and warm and there's no reason whatsoever to get out of it.

I don't think I will tag anyone. Do it if you feel like it.

I wrote this for the RotS challenge over at http://a-larger-world.com. It's my way of filling in the plot hole about Padmé and Leia.
It's unbeta'd, so concrit is most welcome and if anyone wants to beta it, that'd be great too

"Mami!"

Bail smiled as he heard the voice of his little daughter. Her nanny had insisted that she was already sleeping, but he hadn't been able to resist the temptation to kiss her goodnight. He hadn't seen her in weeks and these days every day brought new changes in her. He hadn't been able to wait.

Leia was sitting up in her little white-curtained bed, babbling away in baby-language. The soft light by her bed fell on her curly brown head and plump arms.
