I don't really like the implication that Anakin was conceived via Darth Plagious' manipulations. I liked thinking of him as the son of the Force itself, not some genetically-engineered cogwheel in the Sithly Cunning Plan (TM). Although I suppose it is irony, that the man designed to be the Sith's ultimate weapon ended up destroying them forever. But I still liked it better the other way. At least it wasn't stated outright. And, as [livejournal.com profile] ladyaeryn pointed out, it may all have been a lie. Palpatine is not noted for his sterling truthfulness.

There are several options here: one is that Palps created Anakin; one is that he was lying; one is that Darth Plagious the Wise did the deed.

I think it was Pruneface that did the deed, because the Force doesn't ever manifest itself physically, as Anikan would then be. But, the question remains, why did Palpy do it?

Because he was a pawn of the Force, and the Force needed a... crucible, a pivot, a catalyst. A shatterpoint, in the eyes of Mace Windu. And Palps had the power and the knowledge and the inclination. All that was needed was a little push.

And, of course, therein lies the ultimate irony of his existance - that the master manipulator was in fact no more than a pawn himself.
