I saw Casino Royale last weekend, with Phil and Gillian.


For once there was an attempt to make Bond and his girl something more than very pretty cardboard. It still was cheesy, but not as much so.
I missed the gadgets, however.
Daniel Craig—Phil said he has a Bond face, specially from a distance. I'm still not convinced by his blond-ness, though. And I don't find him attractive, certainly not so much as his co-star *points to icon* But then I don't find any of the Bonds attractive except Connery.
What is it with Bond villains having a viscerally creepy physically characteristic? There was the guy with the bullet in his brain who put his hand through tables and walked on hot coals for kicks, and the guy with the steel jaw (ok, perhaps more campy than creepy), and now weeping-blood-guy. BTW, I foresee the creation of a thousand deleterius icons. YR FIC MADE ME WEEP BLOOD ZMG1

Well, I had been well spoiled beforehand, so I knew about the 00 thing. Also that Vesper was a double agent, so the ending didn't have the whammy it might have had otherwise.

Vesper is quite possibly the strangest name I have ever come across.

Bond girls have to have daft names. Like being insanely gorgeous and only lasting one film. :)

I think one thing that made it interesting was that I was completely unspoiled. I've never seen any other Bond movies, and I chose it on the basis that it contained a) Poker, b) people shooting other people, and c) romance, and those three elements are rather hard to find all in the same film.

Okay, you win. Though I have a horrible feeling that, somewhere, a prospective mother has seen the film, a baby has made an unfortunate movement, and some poor child is actually going to be called Vesper.
