I'm reading Howl's Moving Castle (again), and I've noticed a slight resemblance between Howl and a Heyer hero. The dandy-ness, the, ahem, sulking, the 8787 women until the heroine arrives....I can just imagine Vidal covering everything with green slime. And Sophie does has a certain air of now-drink-up-your-nice-gruel sometimes, doesn't she? However, I like "It should be hair-raising."
"And you'll exploit me."
"And then you'll cut up my suits to teach me."

better than "You'll coerce me shamelessly."

Forgive me for silly questions, but what did you think of the comparison between the original book and the movie. Although I found the first part of the book introduced the character's backgrounds better I was very happy to find that the "Black door" so to speak was much better in the movie. I just found it a little ridiculous that the magical black door leads to the present where he runs around in jeans. It killed a bit of the magic for me, whereas the move it was his past still but in a more fanciful way and had him fighting the war instead of being just a kid playing football.
