Take ten people from your friends list who you don't know in RL (and haven't seen a lot of pictures of), including the person you're snagging from, and describe the person as you see him or her in your mind.
fernwithy is a tall woman with long straight dark hair, and glasses, oddly. She looks very intelligent.
sunshyndaisies is short and slim, long black hair and black eyes, oval face.
ajhalluk has blonde hair in a French roll, smartly dressed, of medium height, with grey eyes.
swirlycurlzz has bobbed black hair, a round face and is of medium height. She's Asian. (okay, I knew that before :) )
ladyaeryn has light brown hair, a little curly, and blue eyes. She's average height or a little less, but curvy. She wears glasses too. (Okay, I'm noticing a correlation between PT fans and glasses here...)
ladylisse has short brown hair, tan skin and brown eyes. She's tall and rather thin.
emmi_girl has dark blonde hair and grey eyes. She's not very tall, of similar build to
ladyaeryn. Her desktop has Luke Skywalker on it (that was a stretch,not...)
connielane has dark red hair, in those tight little curls, and blue or green eyes. She carries an umbrella.
irinaauthor has brown hair, blue eyes, a C-cup, and wears snazzy boots.
sue_parsons looks kind of like my mammy. :) Short, short dark hair, brown eyes, nice to hug.
Now you all have to comment and tell me if I have it right!
Now, on to some ranting.
I hear that Zahn's latest book has Luke (sorry, that Luke-clone that inhabits the EU) saying that if Mara rejoined the Empire, he'd go with her. Can I just say 'Whaaaaaaaattt?'
Luke hated the Empire right from the start, when he was still on Tatooine. Do you think he'd be any more inclined to join it once they'd killed his adoptive parents, his mentor, his childhood best friend, blown up his sister's planet and family, frozen his future brother-in-law in carbonite, attempted to turn him to the Dark side not to mention the whole Anakin/Vader complexity?
Is there any part of Luke's character that Zahn won't sacrifice to make his Mary Sue look good?
A quotation from Mark Hamill comes to mind:
Do you read the Star Wars novels?
No. Part of it is that you want a clean break, especially since you have no input. It would be hard for me. I made a conscious decision that, now that I'm no longer involved, I don't want to torture myself in a way by saying "Luke wouldn't do that!", if that was the case.
Very, very smart. I only wish I were that clever...
Sorry,
snarkel!

You're The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe!
by C.S. Lewis
You were just looking for some decent clothes when everything changed
quite dramatically. For the better or for the worse, it is still hard to tell. Now it
seems like winter will never end and you feel cursed. Soon there will be an epic
struggle between two forces in your life and you are very concerned about a betrayal
that could turn the balance. If this makes it sound like you're re-enacting Christian
theological events, that may or may not be coincidence. When in doubt, put your trust
in zoo animals.

JMHO, YMMV.
Date: 2004-02-20 08:46 pm (UTC)To offer my perspective on it:
On the other hand, Luke offered: Mara didn't ask him to make that choice, and she'd already decided not to go. He offered.
That's the point. When we look at what was actually done by the two of them, it's Mara who followed her husband wherever he went and adapted to his (Jedi) lifestyle. I mean, it's often said that Mara is such a controlling wife and Luke is "whipped", but it was Mara who gave up her old lifestyle to follow her husband's, not the other way 'round. She never expected (much less asked) him to give up his life and join Karrde's organization or whatever she was working for.
And Luke, being the good, loving man he is, doesn't just take it for granted that his wife follows his life choices, he reminds her that to follow her choice is also an option. Because they have a relationship where there's true parity, where there's love, where the other is appreciated. (Note that I'm only talking about Zahn's version of L/M here; I'm leaving out the NJO because pretty much all characters got distorted therein.)
I've been in a relationship where it was taken for granted (by him) that his family, his lifestyle, his everything came first, and I was the one who was to adapt to his life, not the other way 'round. And all the while, I had to listen to his spiel about how he was making such a big sacrifice by accepting me into his life! When he wanted to change nothing and just put me into his life like an additional piece of furniture. :-( As coincidence would have it, I read VOTF shortly after going through that, and I came to the conclusion that I'd much rather have a guy like Luke (and I think I've found him, but that's another point). So because of that, I feel strongly about the whole thing, which is why I pitched in, even though I haven't gotten around to reading SQ yet (which means I can only go by what others have said about it, so please take everything I say with the mandatory grain of salt for the moment, 'kay?)
