Ow, ow, the casting, it burns
May. 14th, 2008 09:16 pmThe disadvantage of warm weather: no central heating, therefore no hot water in the tap for the washing up. I'm boiling a kettle and remembering my student days.
This is not my Sam Tyler. Nor is it Gene Hunt. It's not LoM, and it doesn't look like it's an American cop show of any quality. It's just a half-baked mess. It doesn't seem to be a reimagining, just our programme warmed over. These guys aren't Sam and Gene, they're acting Sam and Gene.

The weather is killing my brain. It's lovely in the mornings and evenings, but work is icky because the building is stifling, the desk fans blow all your papers about the room, and the drains in the courtyard are doing their annual reek-fest. Apparently the Water Service has been informed.
elerrina_amanya and I have decided that it is too hot to cook (although not too hot to walk to the shop for ice-cream, obviously), so we're only getting around to supper now. The heat would be the reason why she's decided to spring-clean her bedroom and hoover the house. It shamed me into cleaning the bathroom, though.
Bank Holiday.
elerrina_amanya ran her leg of the marathon in 44 minutes.
I went for a long walk in the fields, and am reading Red Mars. I'd started it before, but I don't think I was in the right mood for it. The characters aren't that important, Mars is important. In fact at the minute I'm a little annoyed with the characters for having all these human concerns when they could be terraforming.

Life emulating Bujold
Apr. 30th, 2008 09:32 pmSo Prince William is emulating little brother and going into war zones. You know, it's starting to remind me a little of The Vor Game.
Ooops, I missed my LJ birthday
Apr. 29th, 2008 09:21 pmThe weather here is beautiful, really summer-like. And Ben and Jerry's in Castlecourt was giving out free ice cream today, yay!
The stupidity, it burns (OSBP)
Apr. 24th, 2008 08:33 pmSo, apparently some idiots at a con decided that Open Source Public Groping would be a great idea. In theory I'm right behind the reciprocal Open Source Boot to the Crotch Project, although in practice it would probably come down to the Open Source Yelling "Keep Your Hands Off Me or I'm Calling the Police, You Pathetic Sleazebag" Project.
Honestly, is the difference between software and women's bodies that foreign a concept, really?
Still, at least we got this Harriet Vane fic from
nineveh_uk on the topic.

So I just watched the latest episode of Numb3rs, Checkmate. ( Spoilers )
It's all over the internet and even on Radio 1, JKR is up against Lexibook in court. I love the charts of JKR material versus tiny little bars of original material (here; scroll down to the end). I hope the smack-down that is applied to RDR causes a small earthquake

The cats of wimpiness
Apr. 14th, 2008 07:59 pmOur neighbour across the road and down the lane has recently acquired two kittens for his little girls. Said kittens are about six months old. This weekend, he must have been away, because they decided to come up to our house and sit on our windowsills squeaking. They let you come to within a couple of feet of you and then run away. They occasionally invade the house and eat our cats' food. The funniest part? Seeing our two, adult cats, one an eleven-pound bruiser, cowering in terror in front of a couple of half-sized kittens. We own the wimpiest cats in County Down.
